Listen to a recording of the Application of Accelerated Bridge Construction for Local Agencies webinar. This webinar was sponsored by Caltrans and the State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC), and hosted by the California LTAP Center.
ABC employs innovative design and construction methods in a safe and cost effective manner to reduce the number of on-site construction days and construction related impacts that occur when building, replacing, or rehabilitating bridges.
Caltrans has partnered with representatives from county and local agencies and the consulting, precast fabricating and contracting community to develop an effective outreach webinar presentation to educate transportation stakeholders about the benefits and methods of ABC.
Proven benefits of ABC include improved work zone safety, better environmental outcomes, and reduced impacts on the traveling public, local businesses, and the goods movement industry. ABC effectively addresses the transportation challenges of an aging infrastructure, population growth, increasing environmental constraints, and safety considerations while improving project delivery efficiencies and reducing traffic delays.
Topics included:
- Defining ABC and how it differs from conventional bridge construction
- Supplying case studies of recent projects in California and other states
- Providing a process to identify the tangible benefits of ABC and the various ABC methods that can be employed for a successful project
Presenter:
