Requirements for Electric Vehicle Chargers 2022-23
On August 31, 2022, a notice was posted in the Federal Register seeking comments on a waiver of Buy America requirements for Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers. Comments are due on September 30, 2022. The proposed new waiver would initially waive all Buy America requirements for EV chargers and all components of EV chargers that are installed in a project. The waiver would then be phased-out with two changes during calendar year 2023 and one change in January 2024.
Please note that outside of the context of EV chargers as defined in this proposal, FHWA does not propose any additional changes to its existing policies and requirements for steel, iron, manufactured products, or construction materials through this notice.
