California Local Technical Assistance Program (CALTAP) and its partners at Caltrans Division of Research, Innovation & System Information (DRISI) are excited to launch another year of Federal Highway Administration’s Build a Better Mousetrap (BABM), The Statewide Competition.
Celebrating local ingenuity on a national level, BABM is a federally sponsored initiative that recognizes state/local agencies that are using innovation to solve transportation-related problems to improve job safety and efficiency.
BABM recognizes innovation across four application categories:
• Innovative Project – Any solution that addresses any or all phases of a project life cycle (planning, engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance) that is locally relevant, original, and creative in thinking.
• Bold Steps – Any locally relevant high-risk project or process that presents a break-through solution and demonstrates high-reward.
• Smart Transformation – A locally relevant significant change in any transportation activity/process that is “SMART” (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound) and improves efficiencies.
• Pioneer – A locally relevant product/tool that is among the first to solve a maintenance problem via a home-grown solution.
Applications are now being accepted through May 5th via the DRISI online innovation platform, where you can upload your agency’s submission and browse applications from peer California transportation agencies.
Contest details are located on the BABM website!
