The Sustainable Pavements Program recently published the following documents:
Using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to Inform the Pavement Treatment Selection Process. This case study demonstrates how the Arizona Department of Transportation explores environmental impacts as part of its pavement treatment type selection process using the FHWA Pavement Life Cycle Assessment Framework.
Pavement Resilience: State of the Practice This report describes the state of knowledge, practice, and future needs for pavement resilience based on (1) key national and international climate documents, (2) a FHWA approach to resilience, (3) the results of a literature review, and (4) the findings from two FHWA sponsored peer exchanges on pavement resilience.
FHWA Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO)
FHWA recently issued a NOFO to solicit applications to support its Sustainable Pavements Program through a cooperative agreement. The purpose of the Advancing Sustainability and Resilience in Pavements cooperative agreement is to further the program by exploring topics related to sustainability and resilience, including, but not limited to, sustainable and resilience infrastructure, equity, life cycle cost analysis (LCCA), lifecycle assessment (LCA), social LCA, and vulnerability assessments.
