Round 7 of Alternative Fuel Corridor (AFC) Designation is Here!
The designation of AFCs support installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging and hydrogen fueling infrastructure at strategic locations along National Highway System (NHS). FHWA updates and re-designates AFCs on an annual basis by soliciting nominations from state and local officials. Eligibility for newly established federal funding programs including the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) and the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program is determined by AFC designation. For details, view the FHWA Memorandum for Round 7 AFC Nominations.
Please submit your AFC corridor nominations to Caltrans AFC Nomination Form.
National Freight EV Corridor Designation
In addition to AFC designation, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law requires the designation of national Freight EV Corridors to identify the near- and long-term need for, and the location of, EV charging infrastructure to support freight and goods movement along the National Highway Freight Network (NHFN). FHWA is proposing to use the NHFN as the preliminary designation for Freight EV Corridors. California seeks information on routes to either be added or excluded from this preliminary designation, view details on the NHFN map.
