FHWA Every Day Counts Greenhouse Gas Initiative – Webinars & Updates

Every Day Counts, a state-based initiative of the Federal Highway Administration’s Transportation Workforce Development & Technology Deployment Office, works with state, local and private sector partners to encourage the adoption of proven and underutilized technologies to deliver transportation projects more efficiently, enhance safety for all users, support a sustainable and resilient infrastructure, and incorporate equity in project planning and delivery.

How Are Greenhouse Gases Different
Most transportation professionals have heard of greenhouse gases (GHG) and criteria pollutants, but what are they really? And what are some key differences?

Federal Highway Administration’s David D’Onofrio briefly explains a key concept related to the longevity of GHGs in the atmosphere in the short How is GHGs Different video.

Longevity isn’t the only difference that affects how we should consider these pollutants while planning for our future transportation needs! Follow this link to a How Greenhouse Gas Emissions Different From Criteria Pollutant Emissions fact sheet describing the issue in more detail on the difference between these pollutants.

Every Day Counts Greenhouse Gas Website
A new Transportation Capacity Building – EDC GHG website is available that will host products from the EDC-7 GHG initiative. The website will host recordings of webinars, case studies, fact sheets, reports and links to other helpful resources.

Technical Assistance Available
States differ in how they integrate GHG policy and analysis into their transportation planning process. This FHWA EDC initiative will provide approaches and methods that States, MPOs and key planning stakeholders can use to both quantitatively and qualitatively address GHGs in the planning process, based on identified state of the practice examples.  As part of this initiative, FHWA is offering technical assistance to State DOTs, MPOs, transit agencies, and other transportation agencies. Stakeholders should use this form to request services.
