USDOT Grants Opportunity: SMART Grants Notice of Funding

The Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Grants Program has released the last Stage One (1) Notice of Funding (NOFO).

The NOFO closes:
July 12, 2024
2:00 pm PT

Late applications will not be accepted.

The SMART program provides grants to eligible public sector agencies to conduct demonstration projects focused on advanced smart community technologies and systems to improve transportation efficiency and safety. SMART is a two-stage program: Stage 1 grants are open for application; recipients of Stage 1 grants will be eligible to expand their projects through Stage 2 grants.

The funding opportunity is open to public sector entities seeking to carry out transportation projects that demonstrate at least one of the following technology areas:

  • Coordinated automation
  • Connected vehicles
  • Sensors
  • Systems integration
  • Delivery/logistics
  • Innovative aviation
  • Smart grid
  • Traffic signals

The NOFO can be found on the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) website, as well as Grants.gov. USDOT anticipates this will be the final Stage 1 NOFO of the SMART Grants Program. Applications must be submitted via Valid Eval, an online submission proposal system. A recording of the informational webinar on How to Apply for the FY24 Stage 1 SMART Grant NOFO, held on May 28th, 2024, is available under Application Webinars.

Port and maritime projects involving technology demonstrations that advance, safety, sustainability, and equity could be a good fit for this program.

Please visit the SMART website for more information about the program or contact SMART Grants Program staff via email.
