Federal Transit Administration Awards California $226 Million

Four Rural Agencies Garner $1.4 Million in Grants
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded California transit operators $226 million from the federal fiscal year 2024 Low or No Emissions (Low-No) and Bus and Bus Facilities grant programs. The $1.5 billion in competitive funding nationwide allowed for 117 projects in 47 states, resulting in approximately 1,100 new buses on the nation’s roads. These awards allow for the purchase of American-made zero emission (and low emission) buses and improved bus facilities. The two largest awards in California consisted of $76 million provided to the Sacramento Regional Transit for Hydrogen Fuel Cell buses and $77 million to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Agency for Battery Electric buses.

The Division of Local Assistance (DLA) is proud of the four rural transit operators collectively securing approximately $1.4 million for new buses, which included the Redwood Coast Transit Authority, Humboldt Transit Authority, Morongo Basin Transit Authority, and the Lassen Transit Service Agency. These awards help improve transit services in California’s communities, access healthcare and other vital services, create jobs locally, clean the environment, and improve equity.
