The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Center for Local Aid Support announced the recipients of the 2024 Build a Better Mousetrap National Competition for Transportation Innovation. Each year, FHWA recognizes local government agencies who pioneer innovations that improve transportation performance. The national winners are recognized for their innovations in four categories: Innovative Project; Bold Steps; Smart Transformation; and Pioneer. The winners were recently announced during the National Local and Tribal Technical Assistance Program Association’s Annual Meeting in Albuquerque, NM.

- Innovative Project Award: City of Moreno Valley, California
- Bold Steps Award: West Lafayette Street and Sanitation Department, Indiana
- Smart Transformation Award: McKenzie County Highway Department, North Dakota
- Pioneer Award: Town of East Hartford, Connecticut
The Federal Highway Administration Local Aid Support team supports the use of innovative solutions to improve transportation performance by working through the Local Technical Assistance Centers to provide training and access to subject matter experts.
