Development of Improved Inspection Techniques using LiDAR for Deteriorated Steel Beam Ends

This webinar will present on the transportation research report of enhancing the current inspection protocols for University of Massachusetts Transportation Center (MassDOT) using 3D scanning technologies. The first part of the report presents a thorough review of the current methods utilizing 3D scanning techniques for bridge inspection. The report also consists of laboratory and field scans on corroded steel beam ends. Finally, the research team developed a method for 3D scanning to be used in bridge inspection. The main goal of the project is presented at the end of the report and consists of a comprehensive and implementable protocol for 3D Scanning enriched bridge inspection.

What You Can’t See: The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Direct Vision Study Findings

The trucks on the streets are getting larger, their blind zones are increasing, and the risk of more, and more serious crashes is on the rise. This webinar will walk attendees through the co-creation of Direct Vision, the vehicle vision rating system. It will share the findings from the 60 vehicles measured, including common medium and heavy-duty trucks, as well as some new market entrants. The floor will be opened for a discussion on possible next steps and what this report means for Massachusetts.
