Redline and Side-by-Side Comparisons between 2005 and 2024 effective May 3, 2024
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Realty headquarters posted redline documents showing changes between the 2005 version and the 2024 version of the Uniform Act Regulations (49 CFR Part 24), as well as side-by-side comparisons by Subpart. These documents are available on the FHWA Realty Legislation and Regulations webpage.
The Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970, as amended is the Regulation that governs Right of Way. The Uniform Act and Federal Regulations in the Right of Way phase must be followed when there are federal dollars in any phase of a project as it provides important protection and assistance for people affected by federally funded projects. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has oversight responsibility for Right of Way activities performed on federally-funded projects as stated in the FHWA/Caltrans Stewardship & Oversight Agreement. It is important for Local Public Agencies to stay informed of changes in the Uniform Act as it can affect their projects.
